Besides the finish photo at the historical crossing of the Colorado River (used by Ancestral people, Utes, the Old Spanish Trail, and now Transit Vans in 2022!), here are two photos from yesterday. The highpoint of Mann's Peak at 12272' and overlooking the canyon back to the mountains.

Time to sort out gear, shower, and drink a cold beer or two. And eat!

The Grand-Moab Route ... Starting tomorrow morning The Grand-Moab Route
...
Starting tomorrow morning, I plan on backpacking from Grand Junction and walking home (literally) to my doorstep in Moab. This ~140-mile route will take in single track, ATV and Jeep track, social paths, and a limited amount of pavement walking. I'll go through canyons, over plateaus, through mountains, and end in the high desert I call home. Other than a small portion of the route outside the La Sal Mountains, I will not use the Kokopelli Trail to make my way home.
 ...
I'll start at the junction of the Colorado and Gunnison Rivers. From there, I'll make my way back through some familiar landmarks and places to finish at the historical American Indian Crossing of the Colorado River in Moab (and then walk 1.5 miles to my front door. :) )
...
I'll give a fuller update once I finish the route, but I think this overview photo and photos from past trips hints at some of the highlights to come.

EDIT for the water questions -

Most water sources are 10 miles or fewer apart and should not pose an issue for experienced backpackers. The waypoints get named so that any potential water resources seem apparent.

Two waterless stretches include two stretches 17 miles apart.

After an informative day of workshops, meetings, a After an informative day of workshops, meetings, and lectures @ramblinghemlock went higher into the nearby mountains to check out some canyons on the map. As with many of our recent trips, we went on a hunch, looked at some maps, and found some oblique references in academic journals.

We saw evidence of many different eras - pre-1920s ranching days, Ute images, and much evidence of Ancestral Pueblo habitation.
