Joan and I hosted some friends last month before the worst of the summer heat hit.
Why, for the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, do people think August is a good time of year to take the family vacation to Moab?
We’ve had multiple SARs in town, including one where it was too hot for a helicopter rescue.

We gave them the classic tour, starting with an early morning visit to the Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park. While Joan attended a meeting, I played tour guide a bit for other parts of the park. That afternoon, we headed to the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park to take in the sweeping views across the Colorado Plateau.
The following day? We escaped to our local mountains, looking down at the desert floor far below.
Dude.Don’t detonate a bomb in your own backyard. And I’ve been following you for thirty years. I was in Moab whilst visiting my family in Grand Junction. Grand Mesa, Fruita. Misdirection is key. I only say this because of seething envy I have.
Ha! You apparently haven’t been reading too closely, as I rarely mention specific places. 🙂 Mentioning the Fiery Furnace is akin to mentioning that obscure, little-known tourist destination called “Rockefeller Center.”

No I wasn’t paying attention. The heat has been downright brutal. Every day is a heat advisory here. Humidity notwithstanding. Got hammered with 92 mph winds on the Fourth of July. Have a good day!
