Between the fires, a brief monsoon season, the AQI, and life in general, we didn’t make it to our summer retreat in the San Juans as much as we’d hoped. But this “weekend,” Joan and I finally made it back to our favorite mountains in Colorado.
We started with a quiet camp the night before.
.
Some cold drinks, a peaceful campsite in the aspen, and enjoying camping at a designated campground near where we intended to backpack the following morning.
.

From Joan. Our ever-faithful Chaos 3 backpacking tent is what we use for car camping.
We hiked a loop we’d wanted to do for a while, with wildflowers, alpine views, and, despite the lingering smoke and warmer-than-seasonal weather, the scenery that keeps drawing us back to this corner of Colorado.
It’s an unusual summer for our outdoor pursuits. But fall is coming and the canyon country calls.
