Joan and I went to a canyon well-known to us at this point. We’ve gone to it many times for our volunteer role, but it is a place where we always find something new with each visit.
It gives us a chance to have a quick overnight trip, sleep under the stars, and “see what we see.”

800+ year old yucca cordage.
We don’t count the miles, grind up dramatic-looking slabs, or try to mark something on Strava.
We think of the hours spent out here, the nights spent in our sleeping bags, and if we have the appropriate amount of chocolate for our planned trip.
The canyons abound with the signs of people who also walked the canyon bottom, peeked around the cliffs, and left their mark generations later.
More structured rambling as the years roll on.
Just hanging out is good for the soul.
