Joan and I went to our favorite mountains in nearby Colorado.
It was a chance to get up high, enjoy the views, and hear the first elk bugles of the season.

We went to an obscure peak that, frankly, does not look impressive from a distance. It’s not the highest or most prominent peak, and I doubt it’s on anyone’s bucket list like a 14er.
But some map sleuthing showed we’d be in for a treat once we reached the summit.

Much like a similar peak in the Abajo Mountains, the viewscape proved nothing less than phenomenal, and we could see “our” world from a distance.

The red rock in the distance, the La Sals, the Abajo Mountains, and other familiar places.

And, of course, higher peaks surrounded us nearby.

Ma Nature provided a suitable show for the evening.

I almost brought just my phone instead of my real camera, and I’m certainly glad I decided to schlep the camera up.

From Joan
We enjoyed an evening near the summit with some of our favorite gear.
We headed out the following morning and enjoyed a bit of autumn in the high country.

Soon we’ll be in canyon country, seeing what’s around each bend of the red rock walls and scrambling up and down.
For now? The mountains call and beckon.
