Some rain came on Friday night, blew out some smoke, and made an excellent opportunity for a quick loop in the La Sal Mountains.
From where I’m sitting to the trailhead, it’s only an hour’s drive and makes a great place to melt away the stress of the work week.

A quick side trip to the ~12200′ Manns Peak
The San Juans are a much larger range and arguably more majestic, but something about getting to 10k feet by only driving an hour makes for a satisfying experience.

I did a loop that made a decent amount of elevation gain, got me outside for a night, and made me wonder about the logistics of calling in sick, staying out another night, and enjoying the quiet of the mountains that form Moab’s dramatic backdrop.

“August is the Sunday of summer.” And I spotted some yellow aspen leaves. Autumn is on its way.
A quiet campsite, a mountain sunset, and some solitude made for the perfect balm for the work week woes.
My favorite trip partner is back next week and I can’t wait to walk the mountain paths with her, share our nighttime chocolate, and immerse ourselves together in the wild places.
