Eclipse 2023 – Goosenecks State Park

Joan and a colleague worked at an info table during the eclipse at Goosenecks State Park. Right on the peak eclipse path!

We had the pleasure of camping there with fellow workers and volunteers from different agencies for some amazing night sky views, a fantastic sunset, and excellent morning light (even though we did have to get up a little after 5 AM!).

They answered questions and did fun activities with the children and some interesting displays. Other people there also had some fun stuff, including some solar telescopes. Quite the day! (My contribution? Equipment schlepper and truck loader extraordinaire!)

After a busy day, we went to a nearby obscure campsite and enjoyed a quiet place and some needed rest.
.
The following morning, we saw some familiar places we had not seen in a while and some places new to us.
.
.
.
One post-Columbian panel, as shown by the horses, particularly intrigued me as it depicted just how far-ranging bison once was in North America.
.
.
And we saw a local resident (literally) hanging out nearby –
.
.
We mainly drove along a road with short hikes, but all the panels again show how the modern paths often follow much older routes.
.
.
.
.
One of the last stops we made had us entering a reconstructed kiva with the afternoon light entering the roof opening and giving us a small feeling of what the area may have been like in the past –
.
.
After all the loading and unloading of the equipment for the event, our personal gear,  and seeing the many sights, we felt tired and headed home to unload the equipment one last time and rest up a bit.
.
.
A great, if busy, weekend!
