After picking up my favorite backpacking partner in Grand Junction, we went to San Juans outside of Ouray, CO. It is only three hours from our home (and two hours from the GJ airport) but very different from our desert home.
And arguably the most scenic mountains in Colorado.
It turns out we hiked part of the famous Hard Rock 100 during the weekend of the race. We saw the first racers and could see others and their headlamps from our secluded campsite.
A secluded campsite that lets us make a basecamp to hike from as Joan adjusts to the higher elevation vs. the Banff area.
We hiked among the wildflowers, enjoyed the alpine terrain, and enjoyed hiking together again.
