With the heat moving into our desert home, it’s time to head higher up into the mountains.
We sleep in the cool mountain air, surrounded by trees, and watch the evening light on the mountain peaks.
We camped out one night after work, then went backpacking the following day.
And, no surprise, we aren’t the first to head to these mountains to escape the heat below.
We set up our camp for the evening, ate dinner, and headed to the nearby summit, which is a favorite view of ours.
We enjoy this summit because it encompasses “our world.”
We can see the nearby views of Canyonlands, the La Sal Mountains, the Navajo and Ute mountains, Bears Ears, and even Shiprock and the San Juans in the distance.
We always enjoyed the stunning sunset views.
The following morning, we took another way back to make a loop and enjoyed the tundra ridge walks looking towards the red rocks below.
A couple of quick nights but more time away in the wild places.
