With a brief but noticeable return of winter this past week, we skipped the muddy, snowy roads into more remote areas.

Instead, we tackled some home projects on Saturday and spent Sunday revisiting a place we hadn’t seen in a while. Red rock, canyon wrens, ancient images, and late-winter desert light accompanied the day.

Life always brings its share of complications. But being able to drive fifteen minutes from home, walk a canyon system for ten miles or more, and think about future trips along the same bends in the rock puts things back in perspective. These nearby places help recenter what’s important in life.
