Moab area – January 2026

Cold weather, a bit of snow, and a truck still in the body shop made it an easy decision to stay close to home for the weekend. We hiked locally, revisited a few places we had not seen in a while, and wandered our nearby public lands.

Canyons and rock images sit close to home here, and they reward repeat visits.

Along the way, we passed some salty images scratched into the rock, including one with an interesting spelling choice.

Bored men, presumably young, have not changed their behavior much over the generations.

A rancher glyph dated to 1917 sat nearby.

Not far away, older and far less salty images appear.

We also found a lithic tucked into the landscape.

Along the way, an arch came into view.

Perhaps not the arch, but an arch all the same.

Over the weekend, we continued poking around to see what we could see.

This kind of weekend fits us well, where we can revisit familiar sites and enjoy the area we call home.

From Joan. I’m in one of my period “beard phases.”

We walk, we look, we think, and we enjoy.

Sometimes that is enough.
