A hike to our local mountains did not go quite as planned.

With an AQI of 176 in Moab due to the fires in our corner of the world, we sought refuge in the mountains.

Though the day started pleasantly, the smoke moved in.


Joan had to wear a mask to sleep in our shelter, and we decided to hike out and make the one-hour drive back home.


Still, the wildflowers, mountains, and deer at dusk brought a measure of peace during this time.
