Happy Solstice!
We knocked out a quick Honda-friendly trip while the truck sat in the body shop. We followed an old stock trail, wandered across a mesa, and caught an incredible sunset over canyon country. Not a bad little outing to welcome winter, even if it felt more like October. Sigh…

We found an old can on a nearly forgotten stock trail. It had clearly sat there a long time, but the route still held together in places.

We also spotted a few cairns here and there. They did not point anywhere specific, but they marked that others once moved through the same layers of canyon country.

From the mesa, we took in the kind of view that keeps us coming back.

An impressive choke point, maybe ten feet wide, connected the two mesas. We slipped through and kept wandering.

From Joan
As the sun dropped, the light show started. We stood around, watched the shadows stretch across the canyon, and let the colors do their thing.

The next morning, we picked up the old trail again and followed it back to the trailhead.

We took one last look back before dropping off the mesa and heading to the car.

It felt quiet, local, and like the right way to welcome winter, even if the temperatures leaned more toward fall. Here’s to getting the truck back soon or enjoying a few more Honda-friendly trips. Either way, we’ll get out there and enjoy the wild places.
