Labor Day in the San Juans

We met up with our good friends Holly and Dan over Labor Day Weekend.

With a quick camp on the way.

No backpacking this time, but we found a great spot in a lesser-used area and enjoyed hiking, catching up, and taking in the beautiful scenery of Colorado’s San Juan Mountains.

Holly and Dan are two people we met in Moab, and we kept the friendship going after they moved to New Mexico.

We hiked, camped, caught up, and enjoyed the Colorado mountains.

We felt a bit of sadness as we walked among trees damaged by pine bark beetles and saw the struggling bristlecones. Still, we found plenty of beauty among the damage.

On a happier note, Holly and Dan honored Joan and me by asking me to officiate their wedding in the spring of 2027.

Taking part in the next stage of our friends’ lives, especially in a place we all love, is one of the highlights of my year. I’ll do my best to honor my friends on one of the most important days of their lives.
