Anker box and when in town. I've only had good luck with solar panels in a base camp type situation. I look at GPS as an augment, not a replacement, to traditional tools.

How’d you charge your phone? I’m guessing since you used that GPS app that you had to charge at some point. I’ve seen some people carry solar panels, but I’m trying to decide if it’s worth it. I grew up using map and compass, but a GPS could make things easier.

Thank you for all the work you and James did! Esp with my crazy schedule at work towards the ends, your planning was VERY helpful for me.

Yep, I did two of chockstones with no problem. That ten-foot drop with the water beneath on one was a bit too much for me to comfortably do solo. Downclimbing is almost always more of a challenge, unfortunately. I am a 5.8 climber, but that is with ropes and following someone else! :) It was the middle one (IIRC) and only because I have some basic climb skills was I able to clamber in and out of the canyon to get around that obstacle. A beautiful canyon, but a little interesting solo!

About the route across the Henry Mountains... Reading your trip report post it looks like you tried to follow the same route we took. We got that route from Jamal's AcrossUtah.com and found it much more difficult than he presented. There were in fact three chockstones. We were able to ascend them only because Jim has pretty good climbing skills and there was a fortuitous log we used as a ladder of sorts; we were able to haul the log from one chockstone to the next. I (Amy) cracked two ribs on one of the maneuvers and that hurt like the dickens for much of the remainder of our trip.
We did not follow our higher route across the Henrys, one variation of which was on USFS roads, because it was very windy and snowy/rainy that day. In hindsight we think snow and wind would have been a better option.

I would pursue a route higher up in the Henry Mountains. Perhaps explore a different part of The Maze (though I did like my route). The Pine Valley Mountains were a pleasant surprise and I hit it at peak fall color with yellows and reds. Definitely glad I did not skip it!
