One year ago today

One year ago today, I left the beige box behind.

Fittingly, I had to attend a conference call at 6 AM that morning for a severity issue.

I do not remember the exact nature of the call. Some technical issue involving several people from various departments. A scene repeated up and down Colorado’s Front Range among the various software companies. And a scenario I experienced far too many times during the last few years.

Most importantly? A sign that I made a correct decision.   Too much colonization of my free time.

A few hours later, I said “fare thee wells” to my colleagues (many of whom I still keep in touch with) and shook my manager’s hand (a person I like, respect, and even grab a beer with on occasion when in The Front Range).

I kicked off my new free time on a camping trip with friends, hiked the Collegiate Loop, came back, packed up my place, and then walked across Utah.  I book-ended my walks with a trek along Canada’s Great Divide Trail.  In between, I explored all over the Southwest, went to the Pacific and Atlanta coasts, and I saw family and friends.

Now I am starting another chapter in Moab.

The highspeed Internet (should be) hooked up tomorrow. I will attempt to go into business for myself with a various mix of my experiences and skill sets.

And start another chapter.

View from the new home. #moab #utah Think I’ll be OK here for a bit. 🙂

It’s been a good year.  Looking forward to seeing where the next year takes me.
