You know, our neighbor mentioned it and it seems to have slipped my mind somewhat but I do remember walnuts for some reason.

Believe it or not, the area, behind our house historically had apple orchards. Some streets in Moab even have streets named after them. Much like FRUITA, Grand Junction, and Palisade up the Colorado River, irrigation provided water for orchards. Then uranium mining came in and, well, here we are in 2022! The new home, from what I understand, originally got built in the 1950s for the miners.

Not far different in some ways from some of the old mill homes kicking around in my hometown area back in New England.

Lots of character to those land forms. An orchard will be a nice compliment. I’m curious about what kind…pomegranate, fig, persimmon, or maybe olive? Those would be my guesses.

Wow! That’s an interesting article. Moab certainly fits those stories.

But on a better note, we have a great view of the “Moab Portal” and our neighbor behind us, who owns the land, is a long-time Moab resident. He’s planting an orchard, which means we should have this view for years to come vs vacation homes!

Let’s see the view out the back yard! Looks like it could be an interesting place to enjoy a hot of tea or a cold beer.

Sincere congratulations. Good on you for escaping the 21st century tenant nightmare.

Here’s another article for you. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/18/realestate/home-owners-first-time.html?searchResultPosition=2
