In 1998, online journals were not common at all. Online journals about hiking were esp. rare. My thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, in addition to an online journal, made my hike interesting enough that Providence Journal did a story about me and my hike. It was my fifteen minutes of fame in a small part of the smallest state! Also included a follow up article from October 1998. Both these articles were from the West Bay Edition.
