Warm, comfy and superb fit: Ausangate Socks
When backcountry skiing, a warm and proper fitting sock that is one of the foundations for skiing nirvana.
Too loose fitting of a sock and blisters will form. The quest for turns becomes an ordeal rather than a joy.
A sock that does not keep the feet warm will make you quickly retreat to the warmth of your car. Perhaps heading to the apres ski a little earlier than anticipated.
So then, what socks to wear?
Synthetic socks tend to not breathe, soak up sweat and ultimately make your feet colder.
Wool socks are my preferred choice. More adaptable to a wider variety of conditions due to wool’s natural breathability and more forgiving of moisture build up overall, wool is the original “wonder fabric”.
In the past, I have worn ragg or worsted wool socks with a liner. Without a liner, these socks are scratchy. With a liner, the scratchiness is eliminated but the socks can bunch up and cause possible hot spots. No fun.

I’ve been fortunate enough to use both the Alpacor Knee High Performance Socks and the Alpacor Ski Socks this past season.
