Ha! Joan and I typically use "Backdoor" ways into Arches as well, mainly via adjacent BLM land. Around here, you see people with "service dogs" (ahem) on the trails quasi-legally as well. But that's another discussion!

Absolutely hilarious, you see a lot of this around GSMNP. I’ve somehow been the NPC pointing out you obviously can’t walk your 3 dogs down a trail more than once. Occasionally I lose all faith and only plan trips around trailheads that aren’t official entrances.

<

blockquote> So they used the license plate number to find out where they lived. Then they went to wherever their house was down in the LA basin and had a big picnic in their yard and left all their trash.</blockquote>
Ha! That's awesome.

As someone who grew up in Wrightwood, CA (I was about to tell Mags where that was then I realized I didn’t need to because he stayed at our house once – duh) and now lives in an area outside of Durango that has a lot of VBROs, I thought the concept of NPCs described the dynamic well. I used to call it the “Disneyland mentality.” As in, “I’m at Disneyland so I can just leave my trash and someone else can pick it up.”

In Wrightwood, when I was in high school, a friend, her boyfriend, her mom, and I did an Earth Day cleanup along the highway. We picked up a whole truckload of stuff, and a lot of it was old cardboard and broken plastic sleds plus picnic trash from a snowplay area. But her mom found 3 $20 bills from along the highway where people would change into their ski clothes and gave one to each of us, so we actually kind of ended up getting paid.

Some friends near me had some people come and snow play in their yard when their family wasn’t home. One of these people’s girls ended up breaking her arm sledding. They tried to sue my friends’ family, but thankfully, the judge said that was ridiculous and threw it out. But he said they had to CYA by posting No Trespassing signs around their own yard. A few years later some beer company wanted to use their house to film a beer commercial. They offered $10K or something, plus threw in an extra thousand to use their motor home. It ended up paying for the twins’ first year of college.

So I guess the Adventurer classes can take away, but they also giveth.

When I was in fourth grade, an older person who worked at my elementary school told a great story from back in the days when you could find someone’s address if you knew the license plate number. Some snow play people came and played in someone’s yard in Wrightwood and left all their trash. So they used the license plate number to find out where they lived.
