					<description><![CDATA[I’d hiked my first long section hike in 1991 before going to grad school.  My Kelty Super Tioga weighed 72 lbs with 10 days of food.  My girlfriend’s was 54 lbs.  After 30 days I blew out an ACL.   In 1994 I headed out on another long section hike with the same pack, but down to about 55 lbs.  After completing that trip I found, and read Jardine’s book, and it changed my hiking style forever.  At 67 I can still go from being fairly sedentary to hiking 6 to 8 miles a day (Only 10 years ago it was 12 to 15 out the gate).  My “gear system” now weighs about 13 lbs.  I also read Fletcher’s “The Complete Walker” when it came out in the late 60s, and it started me thinking about how gear works together.  Both books taught us how to “think differently” about backpacking, especially long distance hiking.  Nice overview Paul…]]></description>
